Small hydraulic truck cranes in the 15–30 ton class are the go-to choice when the load is light and the crane can park close to the drop point: a residential A/C condenser, a hot tub, a small palm tree, a few roof trusses or a sign cabinet. They set up quickly, fit on many residential streets and driveways, and usually carry the lowest hourly rate and the shortest minimum.

Keep in mind that the rated tonnage is the capacity at a very short radius. A 30-ton crane can lift far less when it has to reach over a two-story house. If your load is more than a few thousand pounds and far from where the crane can park, the crane company may recommend a 40–60 ton unit instead.
