The 40–60 ton hydraulic truck crane is the most requested size for commercial work in the Rio Grande Valley. It has enough boom (roughly 95–110 ft on the published examples below) and capacity to set packaged rooftop units on two- to four-story buildings, lift steel beams and columns, place generators and transformers, and reach over buildings to the back of a lot.

If you are not sure what size you need, this is often where the crane company starts — then adjusts once they know the load weight, the radius (horizontal distance from the crane's center to the drop point) and any obstacles such as power lines, canopies or parking lots.

Common jobs

  • Packaged rooftop HVAC units (RTUs)
  • Steel beams, columns and joists
  • Generators, transformers and chillers
  • Pre-cast concrete pieces
  • Larger trees and palms over buildings
